Being a small village, news soon spread around Chappaiya of Ghanshyam Maharaj illness. Hearing this Chandamasi ran down Bhaktimata's house and found that Ghanshyam Maharaj had come down with smallpox. She put Ghanshyam Maharaj to bed and instructed that no children were allowed to visit Him as smallpox is easily spread amongst children. Laxmimami also came to see how He was. Finding out He had smallpox, she said that Ghanshyam Maharaj was not to have a bath for twenty days. Ghanshyam Maharaj would not have this since a Brahmin must take a bath everyday. Ghanshyam Maharaj assured Bhaktimata that taking a cold bath now will cure Him of His smallpox. Having faith in Ghanshyam Maharaj, Bhaktimata drew some cold water from the well for Him to take a bath. True to His words the smallpox were cured.
The episode teaches us that, unless in very difficult circumstances, satsangis must not forsake such religious duties
